Our Cross Shines With a Ray of HOPE

We are blessed to be able to announce the Cross on the House of Help facility is burning bright with a ray of Hope for all to see.  My husband Tim was able to take the Cross down today, work on it,  string up new sets of rope lights and replace the hangers to hold it in place.  We have set the timer for the lights to be on from 6 PM to 2 AM.  Truly a Thanksgiving Blessing.

We are located on the corner of FM 1488 and 1st Street;  716 – 1st Street, Hempstead, TX 77445, and mailing address is P.O. Box 1075, Hempstead, TX 77445.  Our phone # 979-826-4445.

I have a story I would like to share from one of the families we assist at the House of Help.  One of the Ladies that came to us, very sweet with many health issues, is fighting cancer and has not been able to gain weight like the doctors want her too.  We have helped her with her diet and have made sure she has food to eat. She proudly told us today that because she now has sufficient food and can eat right she has gain several pounds.  Because YOU have made it possible for us to extend that Helping Hand, she was able to gain weight in less than a month; something she has been trying to do for a long time. She is so happy and can’t wait to tell her doctor next week.  Thank-you Lord for this Blessing.

Did you know that even the little things we give when we have them like toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant , bath soap, shampoo, paper towels and toilet paper really mean a lot.  Where you aware that You cannot buy these things with food stamps, if you happen to be lucky enough to qualify for food stamps.  Little things add up and take away from what money you have and need for meds, rent, utilities and etc.  90% of the families we have seen are either on a fixed income or working with wages below poverty level.  Others have lost their jobs and are looking for work.  With the exception of one person, we have not had anyone just looking for a hand out instead of a Hand Up.

We have plenty of vegetables for now but are either very low or out of and need the following: spaghetti sauce, spaghetti, can potatoes, tomato sauce, cereal, peanut butter, chili, soups, can meats of any kind, can fruits, jello – prefer sugar free, and tooth paste.  If we get Pinto Beans and Rice in the BIG BAGS we can break them down and weigh it out into 1 lb. packages.  It is cheaper to buy that way and goes further.  Rice and beans are the ONLY thing that the Houston Food Bank will let us take and divide like that for those that we serve.

We appreciate the donation of Can Goods but ask that you Please, check for Expiration Dates on the Cans so we do not have to take deal with the disposal of expired cans.

Our Thrift Shop will officially be open for sales Wednesday, Nov. 28th from 10 – 4 PM.  After that it will be open Tuesday through Saturday 10 AM – 4 PM for your shopping pleasure. ALL proceeds received from the Thrift Shop go to support the expenses of our Outreach Ministry for the Community Food Pantry.

We accept household and clothing donations Wednesday through Saturday during our normal business hours.  We ask that you DO NOT LEAVE donations on our door step or behind our building.  Remember, House of Help is located on property owned by Faith United Church.  We are their guest and need to act accordingly by helping them keep the property clean.

TOYS FOR TOTS applications are available at the House of Help, Focusing Families Thrift Shop, United Methodist Church and St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church. CUT OFF DATE for Applications to be turned into the House of Help is Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012.

We need  Volunteers of many talents  that would like to help us meet the needs of our Community.  THANK-YOU seems like small words but they are meant sincerely from our Heart to yours.  Without the support of many through contributions of time, talent, food and monetary donations, this much needed resource for our Community would still be a an empty building instead of an Outreach Community Ministry reality.  One Church, one person cannot do this alone, however, when the Churches and people of Hempstead join and work together the whole Community is Blessed.  Thank-you! May each of YOU be Blessed and be a  Blessings to others.  Sid Chipman, Director, P.O. Box 1075, Hempstead, TX 77445
